Nefera products have been carefully developed by renowned plastic surgeon Dr Farid Kazem in conjunction with dermatological experts. We approach skincare and anti-ageing from a medical perspective – so we know that without cold, hard fact and scientific research, we can’t expect to see results. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for the cosmetics industry as a whole – where unsubstantiated claims and disappointing (yet expensive) products are commonplace. In this article we explain why trusting science with the future of your skin is the only way to ensure that you will give it the best possible care and treatment.

Scientific research is based on fact

The biggest benefit of scientifically developed formulas is their firm basis in fact. Scientists are thorough and hard to convince – and that’s good news for your skin. It means that when something has been scientifically developed or proven, it works. You can believe the results – and spend your money with confidence. Scientific proof provides reassurance and hope in an ethical way for many women who feel desperate to find a solution – and often find they are scammed or short-changed as a result.

Clinical tests are conducted with the best outcomes for your skin in mind

Results aren’t the only focus of clinical studies. Scientists must also ensure that the beneficial outcomes from using a crème or ingredient aren’t outweighed or affected by negative implications. When you see that a formula has been scientifically developed and tested, you can be sure that the product you are using is safe, and suitable for your skin. This is a massive problem for ‘natural’ creams and solutions – as their provenance and benefits haven’t been proven. They may also not be as safe as they suggest – as even natural ingredients can be harmful to skin’s sensitive structure. One example of this is Tea Tree oil – shown scientifically to produce isolated benefits with proper use – but capable of burning and damaging the skin if applied incorrectly.

Herbal products and unapproved ingredients can do more harm than good

At Nefera, we love nature – and we have no doubt as to how powerful natural ingredients can be. Our very own Ennapeptide M is derived from ocean fish. But it’s important to be cautious when spending lots of money on creams that share unsubstantiated claims about ‘natural ingredients’ with various ‘benefits’. Citrus oil was (and still is) widely reported to be great for anti-ageing – with advantages including superior hydration, age spot lightening and toning with continued use. It has transpired however that the ingredients cause long-term (and on occasion irreversible) irritation and damage to the skin. It’s also important to note that there are no strict regulations surrounding the promotion of skincare that has not been clinically developed – so claims like ‘natural’ are widespread. This doesn’t necessarily mean that the ingredients contained within the products are safe – or beneficial for skin.
