The weather outside is frightful but that doesn’t mean that your skin has to mimic that! Winter brings snow, ice and the holidays, but it also brings a dryness to the skin along with the rosy glow. For some people, skin affected by the cold becomes dry and tight, and sometimes it begins to flake. Boosting your winter skin care regime should be a priority for you if you want to have skin that stays hydrated and healthy throughout the colder climates. Below, you’ll find ten amazing tips to improve your winter skin care and banish dry skin all year around.

1. Get Some Help

Speaking to a dermatologist when you have dry skin is going to be better for you than speaking to a salesperson who is just looking to push a product. Get the right advice, not the advice that sells you expensive skin creams.

2. Moisturize More Often

As the weather changes, so should your skin care routine. Oil based moisturizers should be your priority in the cold months rather than the water-based ointments. Look for the oils that aren’t going to clog your pores.

3. Use Sunscreen

Believe it or not, sunscreen is not just for the hot summer months. If you’re on the slopes or living in a place where the climate is colder than other places, you are exposed to glare off the snow from the sun. wearing factor 30 as a minimum is a must.

4. Don’t Forget Your Hands

You have thinner skin on your hands than anywhere else, which means that they dry out faster than the rest of the body. Wearing gloves when you head outside is going to protect your skin and keep you warm.

5. Wet Gloves & Socks? No!

Snowballs are great, but they can soak your gloves, causing itching and cracking skin. The same happens with socks – trench foot is real, let’s avoid that!

6. Use A Humidifier

The central heating blasts hot air that is also dry, and using a humidifier adds moisture to the air and prevents your skin from drying out! Use more than one can be the best thing you do for your skin this winter.

7. Hydrate – But Not Just For Your Skin

Drinking water helps your skin, we all know that. However, it also helps your overall health and it’s not the only thing that’s going to make your skin feel moisturized.

8. Moisturize Your Feet

Not just lotions, you need to consider those that have petroleum jelly instead. Use exfoliants to get dead skin off the feet before greasing up.

9. Slow Down On Face Peels

If your face is dry, using face masks and peels as well as toners and astringents too often is going to strip the vital oils from the skin. Use cleansing milks and toners without alcohol rather than the clay based options is better, and using a good restorative night cream such as the Nefera Luxury Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream is the best option all around.

10. Warm Is Better Than Hot

Hot baths are wonderful, but they’re no good for your skin! The intensity of the heat can draw the moisture from your skin, leaving you feeling drier than ever. Shorter, warm baths instead of hot baths are better.
