How is nanotechnology revolutionising skincare?

As recently as ten years ago, there were fewer options available to women who wanted to reduce the appearance of visible ageing and support skin to combat collagen loss. How has nanotechnology changed the face of skincare?
Although nanotechnology is a relatively new technique, it’s already being used extensively for a range of skincare applications and formulas. For example, Zinc Oxide nanoparticles help to block harmful rays from the sun – without leaving a thick white coating on the skin. Meanwhile reparative proteins with anti-ageing properties can be encapsulated in liposome particles enabling swifter, targeted delivery via the skin’s own cell membranes. Nanoemulsions allow powerful ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin, thus making formulas much more effective.
Nanotechnology in Nefera
When applied within the realms of skincare, nanotechnology changes the game. It is especially important for crèmes and formulas using peptides.
When Nefera founder Farid Kazem MD originally set out to create his revolutionary skincare cream, he concentrated on peptides, embarking on a long search that ultimately led him to Ennapeptide M. Derived from ocean fish Black Pollack, Ennapeptide M, proven to accelerate and support cell renewal – but it had one drawback. Peptides generally have a heavy molecular weight – which makes it difficult for them to penetrate skin’s layers to reach the regenerative stage where they are needed the most.
Dr Kazem was determined to combat this issue in order to create a truly effective skincare formula. Through dedicated research and development, he was finally able to produce a formula that achieved 92% skin penetration. Citing the importance of nanotechnology for Nefera, he explains:
