Our skin is delicate, complex and vitally important. It indicates our health, regulates our temperature, protects us and defines us. The beauty industry is rife with unregulated and sparsely researched claims lacking credibility and consistency – making it easy for women to make poor choices when it comes to looking after and taking care of their skin for now and the future. Here on the blog we work to dispel those myths – and in this piece we focus on the science of skin cells to explain how lasting results can be achieved.

Skin is comprised of many delicate layers

Even though skin appears to be thin and flat, it’s actually made up of layers – each of which has a unique function and composition. Each layer has layers within itself, comprised of fats, hair follicles, collagen fibres, sweat glands and other crucial components. Other cells are also present besides skin cells, including melanocytes (giving skin its colour and protecting it from UV rays) and lymphocytes (to fight germs and bacteria).

Skin cells start life within the deepest layer

The journey of your skin begins deep down in the base layer or ‘subcutis’ of the epidermis. This where fresh skin cells are formed – and throughout their lifetime (around 30 days) they move up through the layers of the epidermis before dying and shedding. The epidermis is between 0.3mm and 4mm thick depending on where it is found on the body – but within this very small space formation occurs.

External elements can damage or strengthen skin cells

Once you understand the science of skin, you can start to appreciate how it can be affected both positively and negatively by our treatment of it – the things we do and don’t do. The delicate processes occurring within this tiny layer of the skin can easily be disrupted by outside influences, like poor diet, overexposure to the sun, drug abuse or harsh topical creams. The good news is that the epidermis is also susceptible to positive stimuli – like effective treatments, good nutrition and better hydration.

The result of poor or excellent condition skin cells is visible

This is the key to understanding the way Nefera works. Lots of skin creams concentrate on making a superficial change, hydrating to achieve temporary plumpness, or a short-lived ‘glow’. Nefera is different. Using patented nanotechnology, our unique peptide is delivered through the layers of the epidermis right into the deepest layer, where new skin cells are in production. There, it strengthens and supports their growth, resulting in skin that is genuinely better conditioned and protected against future damage from external influencers.

The only way to truly alter the condition of your skin is to start at the base level – deep down in the epidermis where skin cells are formed. The good news is that constantly renewing skin gives us a second chance – it consistently provides us with an opportunity to make positive changes, resulting in a positive outcome. Are you ready to make a change?
